چکیده
Starting with models for the compact object merger event rate, short-duration Gamma-ray Burst (sGRB) luminosity function, and Swift/BAT detector, we calculate observed Swift sGRB rate its uncertainty. Our probabilistic world model reproduces number distributions in redshift flux 123 detected sGRBs can be used to predict joint sGRB/LIGO detection rates. We discuss dependence of predictions on parameters explore how they vary increasing experimental sensitivity. In particular, bursts LIGO volume depends strongly that govern beaming. results suggest nearby should have broader jets average ($\theta_{\rm jet}\gtrsim 30$ degrees), as compared narrowly-beamed appearance cosmological due selection effect driving jet angle. LOCALIZATION OF SHORT DURATION GRAVITATIONAL- WAVE TRANSIENTS WITH THE EARLY ADVANCED LIGO AND VIRGO DETECTORS Citation
The Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (LIGO) and Virgo advanced ground-based gravitationalwave detectors will begin collecting science data in 2015. With first detections expected to follow, it is important to quantify how well generic gravitational-wave transients can be localized on the sky. This is crucial for correctly identifying electromagnetic counterparts as well as un...

متن کاملThe Advanced LIGO timing system
Gravitational wave detection using a network of detectors relies upon the precise time stamping of gravitational wave signals. The relative arrival times between detectors are crucial, e.g. in recovering the source direction, an essential step in using gravitational waves for multi-messenger astronomy. Due to the large size of gravitational wave detectors, timing at different parts of a given d...
متن کاملThe advanced LIGO input optics.
The advanced LIGO gravitational wave detectors are nearing their design sensitivity and should begin taking meaningful astrophysical data in the fall of 2015. These resonant optical interferometers will have unprecedented sensitivity to the strains caused by passing gravitational waves. The input optics play a significant part in allowing these devices to reach such sensitivities. Residing betw...
متن کاملGRB-triggered searches for gravitational waves in LIGO data
The LIGO gravitational wave detectors have recently reached their design sensitivity and finished a two-year science run. During this period one year of data with unprecedented sensitivity has been collected. I will briefly describe the status of the LIGO detectors and the overall quality of the most recent science run. I also will present results of a search for inspiral waveforms in gravitati...
